Gears tactics controller1/12/2024 ![]() Lock and Load saves the entire team the hassle of reloading, meaning that an entire turn can be focused on putting down fire, while Surge completely recharges the targets skills and abilities, granting them back their full toolkit immediately. For those more interested in keeping a team in peak fighting form, the Paragon branch's Lock and Load and Strategist Branch's Surge are exceedingly beneficial. Group therapy, like Stim, is simple but effective, healing the whole party at once. Fitting in with the Surgeon specialization's focus on passive and continuous healing, Recovery Patch grants a chosen unit healing at the end of each of the next three turns, great for orchestrating the takeover of a specific location or aiding a team mate in a narrow escape. For building a Support who is meant to keep people alive, Recovery Patch from and Group Therapy from the Surgeon and Combat Medic branches, respectively, are more or less indispensable. In terms of specialization, the Support can easily adopt the roles of effective healer or battlefield commander. ![]() For a more field control based approach, the combination of Breach, which causes Locusts caught in the skill's radius to give up AP and health to their killer on death, and demoralize, a weapon attack that both damages and debuffs enemies hit by it, makes the Shock Trooper ideal for asserting control over a battle. Even if they don't grabbing the Self Revive skill means that even death won't keep them down, causing them to pop back up after the first time they get dropped. This synergizes excellently with the Badass skill shearing a full 75% of the damage of the first shot to hit the Vanguard on every turn means they are more or less guaranteed to come out nearly unscathed. Picking up the Distraction skill allows the Vanguard to force enemies to fire on them, taking the heat off of other team mates under threat. The Warden branch, in particular, allows for the creation of an exemplary tank. If the player wants the Vanguard to be a dominant offensive force, skills found in the Warden and Shock Trooper trees are ideal. The massive 40% evasion bonus granted to the soldier chosen by the Vanguard to Hunker down is more or less an effective shield, while Intimidates double whammy of breaking enemy overwatch while simultaneously forcing them from cover is useful both for pushing advances and breaking tight opposing formations. Available before getting too deep into specialization, these skills are both endlessly useful in nearly every combat situation. Two skills that every Vanguard should consider are Intimidate and Hunker Down. Conveniently, Vanguards happen to have a well-rounded skill tree that allows them to adapt to fill in any holes in a team composition. A multipurpose fighter comfortable anywhere from middle to relatively close range, players are likely to keep them on the front lines at all times. In most squads, the Vanguard is going to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting. From the basics everyone should have to niche ones needed to make a proper specialist, here are some skills a good Cog commander should not be without. This guide aims to give a few such combos, breaking down some top skills in each class. But, with all the available options, what is the best way to go? Which skills come together to craft the perfect soldier? While there is no right answer - player choice is key, after all - there are some skills that just work well together. ![]() The branching trees grant each of the five classes countless ways to alter their playstyle and combat capabilities, adding active abilities and passive buffs that help shape battles in new and interesting ways. At the heart of that particular aspect of the game is the skill system. Players now may choose how their characters look, how they act, and, importantly, how they fight. The game allows players a degree of character customization unheard of in previous entries in the franchise. Luckily, in addition to taking the series into a whole new genre, turn-based tactical shooter Gears Tacticshas heartily embraced the idea of free and individualized choice.
